There is a great program on A&E on Sunday mornings. It's impossibly early and probably interferes with church... but if you can record tv shows, this should be on your schedule.
The show is called Breakfast with the Arts. Click to see a summary of last week's show. A lot of times they feature musical artists for the whole show. The first episode I saw though was about the South Pacific. It featured food, art, culture, and music on the South Pacific islands and in New Zealand. The wall art made of burned toast was a favorite from that episode! At Christmastime they had an episode of Christmas music with Jose Feliciano and some other artists.
Anyway, it's a crappy time slot for the show. The content is amazing... it should be in primetime. Although... then they'd have to change the name, huh?

running with scissors
Whatever you do... DO NOT see Running with Scissors. Not even for a nickel.
I'm actually glad I saw it though. Do you know how much more time I would have wasted reading the book of the same title that is sitting in my bookshelf?!
How about music? Anyone in funky-land listen to music? What's the best album you've heard lately? Me, I'm into Migrations from The Duhks. Call me crazy... I love me some folk music.
The photo is from the 2006 Wool Gathering. That's right, I went to a wool gathering and it was totally funky, just as you'd expect. It has nothing to do with anything other than I think all blog entries should feature a picture. :-)

Pop movies
Whoa... is anybody listening? Good. It's been a long time so I thought I'd do the Jesus thing and resurrect this blog. "Funkdafied Insanity... come forth!!!"
For starters here are my main movie resources:
www.rottentomatoes.com
www.apple.com/trailers
www.boxofficemojo.com
www.the-movie-times.com
I'm getting ready to see Pan's Labyrinth (or however you spell it) and I'm giddy like a junior high school girl who just got asked to high school prom. Yeah, you heard me. I'm trying to calm myself down a bit though because I HATE when I over-hype a movie in my head and then it ends up being a huge let down (see the Matrix 2 and 3 for reference). It's not even that the movie is bad but it seems a whole lot worse because I wanted it to be better.
We've still been seeing movies l ike they're going out of style. The last movie I saw was "Blood Diamond." It was a light hearted pick me up feel good movie of the year. Not really. It was about a Sierra Leone's civil war, people getting limbs chopped off and the crazy things a country does just to sell diamonds.
The Golden Globes were pretty cool. Did anyone else see 'Babel' other than the McNeal clan? I didn't think so. It was good in an intense gripping kinda way. I thought 'The Departed' was going to win. I've still never seen more people get shot in the face at point blank range outside of Grand Theft Auto... or the east side of Columbus.

it's Friday again... where did everyone go?!
It's Friday again. And it's cold and snowing outside. You know how that makes me feel... that's right, C.O.L.D. And I'm at work and bored again. Not bored like last week. I have work to do... just have to wait on my test system to be available again. What the heck... let's git-r-done, folks!
HEY, Jeremy... what's going on with your neighbors?! The monkeys at the OSU research facility? I guess they are shutting down their operation there. The manager is complaining that OSU takes almost half her funding and then charges them a ton of rent on the building. So they are moving the monkeys to Texas. And then one of them died in transit?! Awful, just awful.
I haven't done any crafting in a week. This week has been about cleaning house, watching movies/tv, and eating popcorn w/the husband. But this weekend... look out. I am going to (finally) work on the roman shades for the living room. Keep your eyes peeled for the photos of that debacle.

Friday afternoon: tick, tock.
No, I'm not watching the clock or anything. Ok, I am. It's not terribly entertaining here today. Well that's what happens when your projects are on track... by Friday afternoon, everything has passed testing and is just awaiting the weekend installation.
I think the sun is actually shining outside, too. And it's not totally cold in Columbus, OH. 39° I can hear people chit-chatting all over my floor. No one is working very hard here!
My husband and I measured our basement last night and talked through some of the design options. Kind of exciting to add a whole new living space to our house! It's going to be the entertainment room, mainly. I'll have a nook for an office. And we'll make a room for laundry/storage. It should be a fun space if we can accomplish it for a reasonable price.
In sewing projects, I made a little "wristlet" purse last night. I need to practice with the zipper. It has some dumb design issues, but it's kind of cute in a "made-by-a-kid" sort of way. (No one has to know it was made by an adult with 3d space issues. I'll post pictures of it sometime...
Ok, ta-ta for now. I'm off to find some other way to entertain myself.

cold weather makes me feel . . .
Cold weather makes me feel... cold. Really cold. So cold I just can't do anything but curl up under a blanket. So cold, I can't think straight. So cold the creative stream that usually flows from my brain has stagnated. And it hurts. It hurts when the creativity can't get out. Almost as much as it hurts when it flows more freely than I have time to act on it.
But I shouldn't complain about cold. It makes me think maybe global warming hasn't taken a firm hold on us just yet. But tell that to the daffodils shivering in my yard. There are buds on my trees, too. I'm pretty darn happy about that. Can you believe it's late February?!
Good movies on TBS today. Actually, Back to the Future II was nice. Jumanji and Jerry McGuire were annoying. Oh Brother, Where Art Thou is on now. I love that movie. Love, love it. I mean, how do you think of something like that? The story of Ulysses told in a parallel 1930s southern universe. The colors and cinematography... the music... LOVE the music, one of my favorite albums. And oddly enough, the movie being on tv is quite timely, as I just had a dream a night or two ago about George Clooney. And he was singing. Who knows where my dreams come from!
But at least it's not cold in this movie... I can forget for a moment that it's cold outside. I need to get outside. Get my hands in the ground. There was a 45 degree day a week or so ago that I pretended was actually warm. That lasted only about an hour. :-)
Saw Delerium last night... it was SO GOOD. A fabulous multi-media event. Such a great blend of music, acrobats, costumes, and giant screen imagery! I went with my mom, my aunt, and my cousin Jessica... she's 12. This is her telling a joke. This is what the cat looked like at the moment of impact. (lol)
She's pretty sweet. I think she thinks her Memaw's side of the family is looney tunes though. Well, if you have to judge by me and my mom, you'd probably come to that conclusion, too.
So I'm not watching any Olympics. My dear husband, John, had curling on today, but I think it was only to laugh at it. Plus, it's too cold to compete athletically!! Or even think about it.
Alright I am actually very busy this evening... I am making a cheat sheet of all my fonts so I can decide in a glance what font to use. I think it will save me time when my creativity is back to flowing.
